Romeo’s Adrenaline Is Flowing

I know when Romeo has been caught up in the moment.  His ears become alert; his body is ready to take flight.  I could almost see the adrenaline rush.

On alert. What it that?

 

Must get a better look. The top of the back of this chair should do it.

 

Romeo, are you going to let me know what got your attention out there?  You look disappointed that it’s gone away.

It’s Bath Time

Cats are very clean animals.  One of their greatest pleasures is giving themselves a bath.  Many times, I can hear them purring while they are engrossed in licking every inch of fur.

It’s bath time for Patches.  She takes great pleasure in her bath time.

 

Bath time for Rusty. It’s one of those things he does best.

 

Unfortunately, Romeo wasn’t available for his bath this time.  Maybe I’ll catch him next time.

Welcoming The New Sunny Day

One of the first things I do in the morning after grooming Romeo, Rusty and Patches, is to open the patio door.  They love to go out there.  Many times, Rusty prefers to perch on the windowsill in my bedroom to look out and greet the day.

Rusty, what has caught your attention out there?

 

Rusty, are you going to tell Mommy about it?

 

Patches, it’s really bright out there now. What are you looking at? The same thing that caught Rusty’s attention?

 

Patches, are you going to tell Mommy about the birds?

 

Romeo loves to look out and hopes to find a bird or squirrel to watch.

 

So, Romeo, what did you see out there this morning?  (Notice that the front paws are in the same position.)  Romeo is frugal about wasting energy.

 

Caught In The Act: Rusty

I don’t know where or how Rusty learned to open the sliding door to my closet (maybe he watched Romeo doing it), but he is now a “pro.”

When I saw him starting to open the door (it’s not a lightweight), I ran to get my camera.

Rusty was vigorously pawing at the door.

 

The tail tells the tale.  In like Flynn.

What It’s Like To Work With Cats!

I came across a lovely video that shows what it’s like to be trying to work in your office with cats.  I’m sure Romeo, Rusty and Patches will forgive me for not featuring them today.

Closeups: Rusty

Rusty is an Exotic, as is Patches.  Exotics are actually short-haired Persians, but now, they are recognized as a separate breed.  They have all the wonderful features of the Persians, but are easier to groom since they lack the very long, thick coats of the Persians.

These cats are known for their sweet personalities, and usually calm demeanor.  They also are known to show greater attachment to their humans than the usual cat breed.  But, there are always exceptions, and I know of many cats who are not pure breeds who show exceptional closeness to their humans.  So, the myth that cats are always “standoffish” is just that:  a myth.

Rusty doesn’t always look so dignified. I caught him at just the right moment.

 

It’s not that easy to catch Rusty looking straight into the camera.

 

This is my favorite photo of him. Some may disagree. Whatever. He is still my sweet.

Closeups: Romeo

Romeo is a Ragdoll.  Many people have never heard of that breed, and yet, it isn’t all that new.  It’s been around since the latter part of the 1980s, I believe.

How did the Ragdolls get their breed name?  Well, the story goes like this:  It seems that a woman came across a cat that was very handsome, like Romeo, and when she picked it up, it hung limp – like a child’s ragdoll would.  A very simple story.  Since then, there’s been some cross-breeding (most popular with Siamese and Birmans) to define the breed.

My sister calls Romeo, “Mr. Handsome.” I can’t imagine why!
