Rusty Has A New Toy (video)

Rusty belongs to the “Exotic Shorthair” breed – “Exotic,” for short.  In “layman’s” terms, he’s also called a “short haired Persian”; however, the two breeds are recognized separately by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA).

The breed is very laid-back; in other words, they are not usually active in general.  When thinking of the breed standard behavior, one could imagine a cat that just lays around, catching “40 winks” most of the day (and perhaps also night), and is very content.  The occasional petting session is a bonus.

Rusty, I believe, is an exception. He runs around a lot, and is always coming over to me wherever I am in the house, and asks for my attention.  I follow him and he usually takes me to where I can understand what he wants, looking back and talking to me, making sure I’m still following.  What a guy!

Toys are a mystery – to me – because it is difficult to find a toy that will create an interest so that he will actually attack and play with it.  I found a new one just recently that got him excited.  See video below:

Rusty Loves His PetZone Toy

Rusty is the only one of the three who really gets into this toy.  It’s almost like a “busy-box” for cats.

I kind of got carried away when video-taping this, because after viewing it, I realized it’s 3 minutes long!  I won’t feel sad if you don’t want to watch it for all that time, but I’m glad it happened.  I can’t seem to get enough of this special little guy!!

Here it is:

For The Love Of…..Boxes

It’s a wonder to me that boxes are the best item of interest to my cats.  And most others, I’m sure.

Boxes are the cheapest and most available toy ever!

Rusty, Romeo and Patches never disappoint when it comes to showing how interested they are when a new box comes into the house.

Patches’ “Teddy Bear”

A rare occurrence:  viewing Patches as she sleeps with a favorite toy.  She was playing with it – tossing it and pushing it.  All of a sudden, she flopped down and went to sleep, still clutching the toy.

Feather Fun

Feathers are fun; at least, Rusty thinks so.  He’s the most playful of the three.  I got a few shots with the feather that I want to share with you all.

This was a rare one in which I caught his mouth open, tongue out, trying to grab the feather.

Feathers and Furs

Today was a great play day with Patches and Romeo.  Not that every day isn’t, but today was special.  We really connected.  I was keeping both of them busy with feathers.  And they kept me very busy, too!!

I was moving a feather around inside the Pet Zone toy, and Romeo loves to try to grab it.

Romeo wasn't letting anyone get his feathers.

He finally grabbed the feathers and was having a great time.

I kept wiggling the feathers on the stick, and it got his interest, for sure!

Now, how did the feathers get away from him? Have to try to get them back!

Patches’s experience was a very satisfying one!

Hmmm. Love you, feather. You're my favorite - yes!

Aw. Come back!

Just for that, here's a kiss, Ma.

Wow. I need a rest after all that playing! I'm all "played" out.

I was all “played” out, too.  Between moving the feathers, stick, mouse in Pet Zone, and keeping the camera ready and snapping shots as quickly as the camera let me, I was done for quite a while.  Lots of shots were deleted, of course, and the ones that were left are here for your viewing pleasure!
