Patches Lets Rusty Share Her Favorite Napping Rug

Patches has sort of made her peace with little Rusty – at least – this time!  “Little” Rusty has a strong mind of his own, and maybe that’s what bothers Patches much of the time.

Well, I was able to catch those two napping together on Patches’ rug.

Patches has become aware that I'm standing there, taking photos.

Sleeping Buddies

This doesn’t happen very often, for two reasons:

  1. Patches doesn’t get along too well with Rusty; and
  2. It’s rare when I see them so close.

It’s probably due to their favorite place to sleep on Mom’s bed is RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE.

So, I guess they struck a deal for a “DMZ”!

Cats ARE Smarter Than Dogs ….. See Below:

Well, we’ve heard it before, many times, and dog owners will always protest that their dogs are the smartest and much smarter than cats.

If you click on the video’s arrow below, you will witness the proof positive.  CATS RULE!!

Now, dog owners, what do you have to say about that?  Comments from cat guardians are also welcomed!

Rusty Gets Back To Sleep Slowly And Lazily

Rusty is a sweet baby.  Sleeps like a newborn sometimes.  Deeply.

Today, he fell asleep on the desk, and when I disturbed him by sitting at my (mine) desk, he moved, stretched and promptly went back to sleep – slowly and lazily.  But he got there.

Notice how the sun glints off his whiskers. If I wanted it to happen in the photo, it wouldn't have. Happy accidents happen sometimes.

An Unlikely Couple

I happened to walk into my office the other day, and I couldn’t believe what I saw.

Patches has been surprising me lately with her actions – kind of out of character, you might say.

The photo below is the latest surprise.  She joined Romeo on the couch on top of the towels and got real close.  They are becoming friends!  It took only 9 years!!

All In A Day’s Nap

Cats are known for their proficiency in napping:  not only do they nap many hours of the day; they also like to change their napping place and their napping position.

The photos below were all taken on the same day.

Update on Separation Anxiety

It’s been about two weeks now, that I have been able to get decent sleep again (see “Separation Anxiety“).  Here’s what I had to do:

The first thing I tried was to put Rusty into the guest bathroom which is at the front of the house (my bedroom is at the back).  With doors closed to both rooms, I couldn’t hear his crying and scratching on that door.  I felt very bad about his suffering and crying, but I HAD TO GET SOME SLEEP.

Then, little by little, I put him into the room with Patches and Romeo for (hopefully) the night; however, Rusty would start to cry and wake me up midway through.  So, for a few hours, I put him into his carrier in the guest bathroom, so he would be safe and wouldn’t scratch on the door.  I’m sure he didn’t like being in his carrier.  And, as the nights passed by, he started to get the idea that he had to stay in the room with the others and be quiet.

Rusty is a smart little guy and he got the message, and, a couple of weeks ago, there is no more crying and Mom is able to get a night’s sleep again.  😀

I have decided, if I have to be gone from home overnight again, the three of them are going to the boarding facility attached to the animal hospital!  I figure that way, there won’t be any more disruption in their schedule at home with a pet sitter trying to care for them in the way in which they are accustomed.

No More Separation Anxiety

Problem solved.  Rusty is not unhappy anymore at night.  He is now sleeping with his Mom.

We tried different scenarios, but now we are both getting a night’s sleep.  It feels good.

Separation Anxiety

Ever since coming back from a short trip last week, there’s not been much sleep going on in my house at night.

more sleep

Human and cats didn’t get much during these past nights.

Rusty was crying and scratching on the bathroom door every night.  So, of course, he caught up on his sleep during the day.

OMG-What a baby-July 2011

Each night I climb into bed, I wonder, “Will I get some decent sleep tonight?”
